Any Questions?
Why To Hell with Eating?
It’s a self-conscious remark about the sometimes over-reverential tone associated with food writing. I want to think and talk seriously about what is good to eat and the people who make it that way. I don’t want to put on airs.
Why the no-name rule?
Sometimes I will allude to a product, restaurant, writer, chef or personality whose discernability can vary. I do not endorse products because readers can tell for themselves what they like to buy. I will not specifically mention restaurants because the business of writing about such things is involves the personal, the political and opposing points of view and a swirling miasma of bullshit. I will neither shill for a business, flatter a favored personality or uncritically dress down any specific person or place I don’t like. I can talk about trends, themes, memes, movements and ideas, but never specific joints.
Why write about food at all if you consider it a pompous and insulting symptom of bourgeois privilege?
Well if you want to hurt my feelings, go ahead.
What is your favorite food?
I have to be fair. It depends on who is cooking what. I can say that when I treat myself to a restaurant with my boyfriend or a group of friends, it will almost never be haute cuisine. I like “ethnic” food. There are certain things members of my family makes that I long for. The best meal of my life might have been in a small town north of Barcelona, Spain which I will discuss further in the blog. As for which meal would I like to be my last… I’ll get back to you on that.
